made according to centuries old, traditional Mughal Crewel embroidery art, in mystique Kashmir, North India.

The fine needle art of Kashmir is famous all over the world. One can find their needle art in Pashmina Shawls, Silk or woolen carpets and embroidered home textiles and decor.
A tradition, that has already impressed the ancient Mughal kings of India and Persia, who then decorated their palaces with these unique and breathtaking pieces of art.

Each piece is unique and has been crafted with care and quality in a small Family run -workshop in Kashmir. It takes more than one person to finish one of these blankets and usually (depends on the piece and type of needlework) 2-4 weeks. The work is divided into cutting and tailoring, needlework by the artisan, dying of the woolen thread with natural (vegetable) colors, and special washing/finishing so that the colors will last a lifetime.

"Crewel embroidery, or crewelwork, is a type of surface embroidery using wool. A wide variety of different embroidery stitches are used to follow a design outline applied to the fabric. The technique is at least a thousand years old" source: wikipedia

This bedspread design is called "Posh Dar" and is a special type of Crewel Design. It takes extra time and special care as the embroidery is very close knit /compact and the result is just amazing as you can see in the detailed pictures
