The Kashmiri art of carpet making and embroidery art is famous all over the world.

The "Gabbas" are a reflection of rural life in the Himalayan villages of Kashmir.
They are made out of pieces of old woolen textiles (mostly blankets) or Jute textiles and then joint together and fully embroidered with wool in vibrant colors.
Traditionally a "common man's rug" that used to keep the people warm in the harsh winters as, people traditionally sit on the ground. Nowadays you can hardly find "Gabbas" in Kashmir, as machine made textiles, rugs and blankets have taken over and not many people know the art of this craftsmanship anymore.
